Q. What is ANTI-SNOB? A. It's the personal music blog of Vil Vodka aka Will Tynor.
Q. And who is he? A. Founder of Vodka Tonic Media. Musician, manager, friend, promoter of many Phoenix area bands in the past. Also veteran bartender among several small live music venues.
Q. And why is he doing this? A. Vil started Vodka Tonic Media in 2004 primarily as a record label which also did some gig promotion, radio promotion, and artist management/consulting. However since 2004 Vil also used Vodka
Tonic Media for fun stuff like playlist streaming (aka Vodka Tonic Radio), podcasting, and blogging. Almost four years later and time for a change, so Vil decided he would like to concentrate on just
the fun stuff for awhile. Vil had a similar website from 1999-2002 called MADPEN.com and, after seeing the success of Pitchfork and various music blogs, wishes he kept that site going.
Q. Why the name ANTI-SNOB? A. Vil was reminded how snobby some music bloggers can be and is often tempted to be as snobby. In fact, Vil has been known as the resident music snob at any venue he bartends at. He chose the
name ANTI-SNOB as a reminder that he didn't want to use his website to burn bands he doesn't like, rather hype artists that he admires.
Q. Not a question, just an observation. There is tons of free mp3 talk on here. A. Yes. Vil strongly endorses a music ecosystem in which mp3s from less-than-established bands are given away while artist-fan cultivation happens as those free songs are experienced within the
listener's daily audio experiences (iPods, WinAmp). Before you know it the listener is tracking down more of the artist's music, hopefully bypassing Limewire and visiting their local record store or
favorite online retailer (Or so we all hope). So what Vil likes to do is host licensed mp3s on the Vodka Tonic Media server and tell the world about it through the Vodka Tonic podcast feed, which has
been around for years. Also, Vil likes to showcase websites and labels that have great promotional mp3s for anyone to download and check out.
Q. So what about my band? A. Please go to our myspace page for artist relations: myspace.com/vodkatonicmedia. There will be a separate set of FAQ there to answer artist
questions.
Q. So will ANTI-SNOB be managing bands or putting out records? A. No. But please check the myspace page. There may be future plans to do some compilation LPs in the future.
